Lab Service Specialist- Big Bend Road- Full Time Days

Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 6:45AM-3:15PM Tuesday:10:30-7:00 Every third Saturday 8:00-11:00 (when work Saturday, Friday hours are 6:45-12:00)

The Big Bend Rd clinic has Urgent Care, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and various specialties. 

 

 

The Lab Service Specialist performs phlebotomy on clinic patients and instructs patients for non-blood specimen collections. 

 

Primary Duties Include, but are not limited to:

• Draw/obtain blood specimens from patients by mean of venipuncture or capillary collection according policies and procedures
• Explains the procedure and purpose of steps being performed
• Pull orders from Electronic Medical Record (EMR), enters orders into EMR from outside providers, link orders to appointment, assign venipuncture and handling charges to the order in the EMR, close the encounter after specimen collection is complete.
• Instructs patient on maintaining proper pressure on puncture site and applies pressure bandage
• Responds to requests for blood or other specimen collection in departments within the clinic but outside of the lab.
• Prepares, Instructs patients and receives collection of all non-blood specimens
• Labels all specimens accurately and in accordance with policy and procedure
• Alerts Transportation of calls for a stat pick up of special tests that require special handling or immediate attention
• Receive all blood specimens in the LIS.

 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma required
  • Minimum of 2 years phlebotomy experience
  • Completion of formal phlebotomy program at a technical training school or equivalent lab experience(2 years in a clinical lab environment)
  • ASCP Phlebotomy Certification preferred
